Keywords:
music, kaseko, SurinameAbstract
Kaseko, a music genre from Suriname, is a very popular form of music that started in a working-class neighbourhood and developed into widespread acknowledgement in the following decades. Singers and music groups gained a lot of popularity in Suriname and in the Netherlands. And now a 100 years later December 13th is officially recognized as the National Day of Kaseko through the Directorate of Culture of the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture in its native country. This lady of over 100 years old still has enough resilience in her to charm and engage both current and future generations.
